BURN OFF YOUR XMAS DINNER BEFORE YOU EAT IT
2009-12-01

Aim to have a light breakfast, boiled egg, wholemeal toast, fruit, yoghurt. This will prevent you from overeating later but will also increase your metabolic rate by 10 per cent.

Don’t forget that if you are exclusively breastfeeding you need an extra 500 cals per day, which is in fact one whole meal (maybe without all the trimmings), so if this is the case eat and enjoy. However, bottle feeding mums also have an advantage as when they feed their babies they do not have a spare hand to pick at the Pringles at the same time!

Before you sit down to a full turkey roast schedule a brisk walk with your buggy. Getting out in the cold weather will also help you to burn up to 12 per cent more calories as the body works harder to maintain your core temperature. Wrap up and get out there for a power walk. Wear sturdy footwear and watch out for any ice or snow. Take water with you. Ensure that you keep well hydrated over the festive period and never mistake thirst for hunger! With any luck baby will be asleep by the time you return and so you can enjoy your lunch and eat it with both a knife and a fork instead of being a one armed bandit! Eating within 15 mins of the walk takes advantage of the body’s increased ability to absorb carbohydrates at that time. Your muscles need refueling ready for the next challenge whether it’s the next feed or the rest of the day with an active baby!
